Riverdale homes get AC repair, new AC installation and heat pump service from us. The town sits about 12 miles south of downtown Atlanta, and its houses carry the same long-summer strain as the rest of the area: 90-degree days arriving earlier and lasting longer. That accelerates wear, and older systems eventually need full replacement.
A rail stop that grew into a city
Riverdale grew from an 1886 railroad stop, was incorporated in 1908, and had 15,129 residents in 2020, about 12 miles south of downtown Atlanta. That long history means a range of housing and equipment ages, and we plan each job around what is actually installed.
Riverdale is in Clayton County, which contains most of Hartsfield-Jackson. Some homes in the county were treated under the airport's noise program; if yours was, mention it when you call, because a sealed house changes how a new system should be sized.

The longer season is the new normal
Atlanta now averages about 44 days a year at 90F or hotter, up from 37 under the older normals, and 2019 set the record with 91 such days. More hot days means more full-load hours on every capacitor, contactor and compressor.
Many failures are repairs, not replacements. A hot weather AC repair often comes down to a capacitor, a contactor or a condenser fan motor. When the compressor is grounded or the coil leaks repeatedly on an older system, replacement starts to make more sense than another round of parts.
What a new system has to meet
Since January 1, 2023, a new split-system central AC installed in Georgia must meet 14.3 SEER2 below 45,000 Btu/h and 13.8 SEER2 at 45,000 Btu/h or above. Compliance is judged by the installation date, not the manufacture date.
R-410A has a GWP of 2,088 and is non-flammable, while its replacements R-32 and R-454B are mildly flammable A2L refrigerants with much lower GWPs. The federal rule does not require you to replace a working system. If replacement is on the table, our AC replacement and installation includes matching the indoor coil and a load calculation, and our AC replacement cost guide shows published planning ranges.
Heating and cooling work that fits Riverdale
AC Repair
Riverdale's growing count of 90-degree days wears out capacitors and contactors earlier in the season.
AC Replacement & Installation
Older Riverdale systems facing a compressor failure often make more sense to replace under SEER2.
AC Compressor Replacement
A weak compressor may need a hard-start kit; a grounded one forces a replacement decision.
Heat Pump Installation
Replacing an AC and gas furnace pair can be a chance to add a heat pump instead.
Refrigerant Leak Repair
Repeated recharges on an older Riverdale system point to a leak that needs finding.
Riverdale heating and air questions
It can be if the repair is a capacitor, contactor or fan motor and the system holds its charge. If the compressor has failed or the coil leaks repeatedly, putting the money into a new system that meets current SEER2 rules usually makes more sense.
R-32 and R-454B are classed as mildly flammable, and equipment using them is designed and installed to account for that. With correct installation the risk is low. They were adopted because their GWP is far lower than R-410A's 2,088.
Partly the weather: Atlanta now averages about 44 days a year at 90F or hotter. But a dirty condenser coil, a low charge or a failing fan motor also stretch run times. A tune-up shows whether it is the system or just the season.
The program covers eligible homes built before April 10, 1985 inside the 65 dB contour in parts of Clayton County. If your Riverdale home was treated, the tighter shell may call for smaller replacement equipment. Let us know so we size it correctly.
Usually, if the ducts are sound and sized for the new system. We check static pressure, return size and leakage during the replacement. Ducts that are crushed or undersized will hold back even a high-efficiency unit.
